The Ohnesorge's Print E-mail
Walter Henry Ohnesorge was born on August 11, 1908 to Otto and Albertina Ohnesorge in Fish Creek, WI. He was the youngest sibling of ten children. He spent his early childhood working on the farm helping his parents. When he was twenty years old, his older brother wanted to venture out and talked Wally into going into a saloon business with him. A year later the land was purchased and a small one-room bar was built. They opened the doors of “Slipper Inn” in 1929.

The bar got its name after a relative-by-marriage was toasting the new business by drinking from her slipper. Wally hung his “shingle” our front with a big slipper on it and the name Slipper Inn. After a very short time in business, brother Arnold decided he didn’t like being a bar keeper, so he left the Slipper Inn for brother Wally to run.

About a year or so later Wally met a sixteen-year-old girl named Eva in the tavern she worked at. Eva worked as a housekeeper/cook/maid or “Chief cook and bottle washer” as they called it back then, who did just about everything. Soon after they met, Wally proposed. She accepted on one condition – Wally must change the name of the Slipper Inn. They married on September 19, 1931, and shortly after that the Greenwood Supper Club was born.

Eva Christina Petersen was born in Baileys Harbor, WI on April 3, 1933. Two years later, on June 23, 1935 Eva gave birth to their first child, Dolores. Ten years later, on February 9, 1945 Douglas was born, and lastly Susan on October 20, 1952.

Eva and Wally work hard raising four children and running a bar and restaurant. After fifty-one years in business they finally thought it was time to retire. It was then when Susan and husband Rick (current owners) bought the Greenwood on April 25, 1980 and they have been in business for over twenty-five years now.

Wally passed away January 3, 1989, eleven months before Susan and Rick’s son Taylor was born December 7, 1989. Eva passed away October 28, 1997.
